Toto is looking for a home...
Unwanted pets in Lancaster County now have a better chance of finding a family.
Dawn Wagner called this cute little canine Toto and says even though he’s a long way from Kansas, perhaps someone will give him a home in the Palmetto State. The Humane Society of Lancaster County now has a downtown office. They hope it will help them reduce the number of dogs and cats euthanized at the county animal shelter.
“Unfortunately there just hasn’t been a Humane Society or any type of a rescue to help save the lives of all these beautiful little babies. This is Toto, we rescued him this morning. He was scheduled to be euthanized and it’s just amazing to think how many like this before, didn’t have that chance because we didn’t have the volunteers to help us out with these,” said Wagner of the Humane Society.
The Humane Society has an urgent need for volunteers to temporarily house animals until they can find them a permanent home. If you’re interested in volunteering, the Society is holding a training class at its new downtown office Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon. The training will be held at 126 South Main Street in Lancaster.
If you’d like to take a peek at the pets that are available for adoption, you can log onto the organization’s website at savelancasterpets.org
Belks in Lancaster ... thank you!!!
Belks in Lancaster has a great heart for Lancaster Pets! We were invited to participate in their annual event for non-profits .
Belks has a " Great Heart " for our community and pets!
Humane Society grateful for Belk support By Mary Reimers Humane Society grateful for Belk support The Humane Society of Lancaster County Inc. would like to thank Belk Department stores for inviting us to be a part of its recent Charity Day event. Tom Lester was really great in helping to promote this event, making sure we had a covered place to put the dogs and cats up for adoption that was out of the weather. He stopped by our booth numerous times during the day to make sure we had everything we needed and he genuinely cares about the abused and neglected animals in our county. All of this allowed us to raise more than $1000 for our pets in need and also was the main factor in helping us to adopt out 10 beautiful babies that weekend. The Belk was wonderful, too. One clerk came to our booth to personally donate to the cause. The people of Lancaster again came through for us, stopping by to adopt, to offer to foster, donate cash and offer support for what we are trying to do. We are indeed succeeding and doing more for the animals of Lancaster County than we ever thought possible when we began just a few short months ago. We thank you. The animals we saved thank you and the animals we are about to save thank you too. To learn how you may become a part of this wonderful cause, please call our main number at (803) 285-5900. Please note that you must dial 803. Mary Reimers Humane Society of Lancaster County Inc
Fur Ball
Humane Society grateful for support By Mary Reimers The Humane Society of Lancaster County Inc. would like to give a very heartfelt thank you to all those who helped make our first Fur Ball a huge success.
There are so many to thank that I won’t be able to list them all. So if you are not mentioned, please know that we know who you are and the omission is one of space only.
We’d like to thank Springs Recreation Center for so graciously offering the use of the recreation center for this event. Tom Lester of Belk’s, Norma Burnette of Silver & Spice, Cheryl Wedder, Betsy Gregory Designs, Carrie Ritenhour, Michelle Deese, Buford Volunteer Fire Department, Massage Envy and Trent Parker are but a few who contributed door prizes. Thanks to B.J. Mishoe for all her efforts in putting this together, as well as her sister who was our deejay that evening. And of course, to The Lancaster News which ran our information helping us to promote this event. Thanks to the shops and banks on Main Street who allowed us to place our fliers to get the word out. And to Bob Hunter who did a lot of leg work in contacting organizations and seeking contributions.
We are grateful to all the volunteers who came to help in setting up the room and serve the food and to all those who brought in those luscious desserts.
But our biggest thanks must go to the people of Lancaster County who have helped us tremendously with their support – by attending meetings, by attending the Fur Ball, by signing up to become a member or to volunteer to be a foster home for the animals we have rescued.
Without your support we would not have been able to continue and grow.
Through your support, we raised more than $1,100. Every penny will go toward the saving, spaying, neutering and care of the animals who so desperately need our help.
Our attendance at meetings is wonderful, but we still have room for more. Our meetings are 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at Covenant Baptist Church on Craig Farm Road. Mary Reimers
